Paris Liberation 1944 in Color & 3-D

Dramatic relief from the flat, black & white photos associated with recent media observations of the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two is provided by a unique group of photos, not only in color but in stereoscopic 3-D published in Stereo World, the bimonthly publication of the nonprofit National Stereoscopic Association. These historic images document the days immediately before and after the late August, 1944 liberation of Paris and surrounding areas from Nazi occupation.
Few amateur photographers ventured out to document those confusing, rumor filled days, but Marcel Lecoufle had a sense of history, an early 35mm stereo camera loaded with Agfacolor film, and a bicycle. He stereographed explosions from air attacks, damage from shelling and street fighting, wreckage of tanks and planes, and welcoming crowds around U.S. jeeps and troops.
Mr. Lecoufle's 3-D images (plus his wife's diary of the days surrounding the Liberation), appear as full stereoscopic, color pairs in the September/October, 2005 issue of Stereo World. The issue is available (with a 3-D viewer) from NSA, PO Box 86708, Portland OR 97286, for $8 postage included.

Stereo World Magazine is published bimonthly with 40 or more pages per issue. Stereo images from a variety of eras and formats are printed as high quality side-by-side pairs, lavishly illustrating every article. Stereo World publishes original research by noted authorities on stereo photographers, their publishing histories, the historic events and subjects they depicted, and their equipment and techniques.

All NSA members receive six issues of Stereo World annually. Equally featured are articles of interest to today's stereo photographers and students of 3-D imaging techniques.

Subjects covered are cameras and projectors, viewers and other equipment, 3-D drawing and digital applications, View-Master information, 3-D film and video developments and news of products/services from around the world. Stereo related books are reviewed, and upcoming photo trade shows and exhibitions are listed.

Display and classified ads assist members in pursuing their stereo activities. Members are offered free classified advertising (100 free words per year, divided into three ads).
